Time to Rejuvenate a Couple of Roofs

In order to kick off a set of exterior renovations in May of 2022, Gary Gnade of the unique furniture store Design Ranch, had us work on two of his properties at 101 E Davenport Street, Iowa City, IA.

The main structure is the building for the business and the other is a rental property.

The first steps involved was inspecting the roofs and measuring them up, as well as figuring out how to deal with a tree being in the way of the workspace.

Power washing them both was a must; we took care of a majority of the loose bits from the silver roof coating of the main business and the peeling red coating of the rental unit.

Scrapin' & Primin' Two Roofs at Once

After powerwashing the roofs, the remaining loose edges, and chips just barely hanging on had to be scraped with scrapers attached with long poles to reach the very top.

It was then important to get both of them primed with DTM Bonding Primer by Sherwin Williams.

The coat of primer is a necessity because the job can't be given a warranty by the product manufacturer without it.

Oh, and as for the tree, a little dancing around on a ladder with clippers and a saw, then it wasn't a problem no more.

Adding Beauty to a Historic Iowan Neighborhood

Once the primer coat was completed, it sat over night to dry out good.

We then applied a top coat off Chercryl Roof Coating by Sherwin Williams to both roofs.

At the end of the job, Gary had two sharp looking roofs that fit in well with the other roofs in the Goosetown neighborhood of Iowa City.

Right as we were finishing, Gary set up the scaffolding to get working on his iconic storefront as part of the renovation, and you can check out his awesome collection of extremely well-designed household furniture and things at his website https://designranch.com.
